Bosom Buddies

The next Bosom Buddies get together will be on Tuesday 30 August at 7.30pm in the Lounge, Main Street, Largs. Bosom Buddies is your local friendly support group who have all experienced cancer. They offer comfort, friendship, advice and support to anyone who has cancer or going through treatment. Please come along and bring a friend or family member. RNLI Dance

The Largs RNLI Fundraising Branch is holding a ceilidh in the Marquee at Largs Yacht Haven on Friday 26 August from 8pm to midnight. Music will be provided by the Susan McFadyen Ceilidh Band who will play a mixture of ceilidh and popular music to favourite dances.

Tickets can be obtained from the RNLI Shop on the Promenade, the Largs Yacht Haven Reception or on the night for £5 each. So get your dancing shoes on and come along!

Bus Pass Ballet

Bus Pass Ballet, for the over 50s will be starting at the Vikingar on Wednesday 7 September from 11.30am-12.30pm. Following the success of the Bus Pass Ballet class which has now been running for two years in West Kilbride, Marylin Killen is opening a new class in Largs. The principal idea is to try something new while keeping the body and brain fit and active, ballet is arguably one of the best forms of exercise as it provides equal measures of suppleness, stamina and strength. No previous training is required, all you need is comfortable clothing and a sense of humour. An integral part of the class is laughter! Why not give it a try? Marylin is a fully qualified, highly experienced advanced ballet dancer and teacher.

Concert

Glasgow Light Opera Club presents an evening of songs from the musicals with patter, introduced by Graham Sherry with David Mackie at the piano. The event takes place at the rescheduled date of Saturday 3 September at 7.30pm in St Columba’s Parish Church. Tickets are available at the door or from the Heritage Centre from midday and 4pm from Monday to Saturday in St Columba’s Parish Church. Songs include items from Evita, Phanton of the Opera, Westside Story, Fiddler on the Roof, and many others.

Bushcraft

Kelburn Estate Rangers host a Bushcraft weekend, on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August. Learn from their experts as they show you how to build fires and live off the land in the wild plus there are a whole raft of educational activities, fun and games. Activities, all included in the price of admission, run from 12pm - 4pm cover flip flop animal tracks, make your own tripod/teepee, tracking safari (hunt for subtle clues of passing wildlife), fire starting, fire lighting demo, tarp shelters, camouflage photos and the ever popular marshmallow roasting.

OIR Dance Group

The OIR Dance Group start back on Monday 5 September at 1.30pm. In the Clark Memorial Hall. Dancing consists of Ballroom, Sequence, old time and Scottish. Colts

The first training academy session of the Largs Colts "Kickers", took place on Wednesday 10 August at Largs Academy, and was a massive success. Over 40 boys and girls born in 2008, 2009 & 2010 together with Parents/Guardians turned out in the pouring rain for an hour of football fun.

Due to the high levels of attendance, the 2009 & 2010 year groups are now closed to new registrations with a waiting list now in place. They are still recruiting for the 2008 year group. Thank you to all the new coaches & volunteers who have come forward to help. If you are interested in helping, please contact Kickers Admin through their Facebook page.

Distillery

Inverkip and Wemyss Bay Community Council Meeting on Thursday 1 September in Inverkip primary at 7pm. The Ardgowan Distillery will be the topic that evening.

Age Concern

The winners of the Age Concern Prize Draw held in the AD Cameron Centre, Lade Street, Largs on Monday 22 August were as follows:- 1 Fiona Dorman, 2 Elizabeth Crawford, 3 Val Blakey, 4 Isobel Port, 5 Duncan McMaster, all win vouchers to use in Morrisons Supermarket.

Dates to note :- Monday 29 August, the exercise class meets at 10.30am and the art group meets at 1.30pm. On Friday 2 September, the Scrabble Group meets at 1.45pm. On Thursday 15 September, there is a visit to the Kelpies followed by a conducted tour of Stirling with time to explore or do some shopping finishing with a carvery meal at The Waterwheel, Port Glasgow. Fully inclusive price £15. Names and monies will be taken on Mondays 29 August and 5 September between 10am and 12 noon.
