Gallowgate Square could host markets and live music in future as it undergoes a revamp.

Councillors met with officers and contractors this week, and agreement was reached on the proposed upgrade of Gallowgate Square to improve its general appearance and allow for greater use of it as an event/market space.

Some locals have criticised the spend on the area, but others insist it could provide live music, and market space, and is worthy of the upgrade.

Agreement was also reached on some improvement works to the prom and at Aubrey Park.

Commenting Largs Councillor Alan Hill said, “The final agreement requires to be signed off by the Cabinet but it looks as though we will be seeing some significant improvement to these areas as part of ongoing improvements across Largs.

"When the SNP set the budget there was included within it around £500,000 towards these improvement works. After discussion agreement has finally been reached and we will now see a significant change at Gallowgate Square allowing the area to be used for musical and other events. There is also the possibility of using Gallowgate Square for more regular markets etc

"Aubery Park is a much underused resource in Largs and we will be seeking to improve this area to encourage more people to walk the length of the prom to visit the park and boating pond. Funds are limited, as readers will be aware, and I will be seeking to pursue the ongoing year on year improvement of the park using the seafront car park fund. Aubery Park could rival Mackerston in the longer run giving families choice as to where they wish to go with their children and the boating pond also provides further development opportunities in the future.”
