A legacy from the Stevenson Institute building in Largs has been left for the benefit of Largs students.

Recently seven pupils who left Largs Academy in 2015 became recipients of a Stevenson Trust Bursary. The presentation was made by Mr Colvin Houston, representing the Stevenson Trustees, on the recommendation of a committee of Largs Academy staff.

The purpose of this bursary is to encourage pupils in need of financial support to continue their studies into the second year of their courses.

Those local to Largs will remember the building known as the Stevenson Institute. It was used as a multi purpose community resource and was in the 1800's known as the Brisbane School. It is from the proceeds of the sale of this building and its land that the bursary is funded.

Pupils receiving bursaries this year were: Alasdair Bell - SAE Institute for Film and TV (Glasgow); David McFadyen - Mechanical Engineering at UWS (Paisley); Alastair Maxwell - Drama and performance at QMU (Edinburgh); Emma Davis - Primary Education with History (Edinburgh); Maddeline Collings - Early Education with Childcare (Kilwinning)' Sam Johnston - Applied Science ( West College)' Daniel Robb - Society, Politics and Policy at UWS (Paisley).

All pupils in S6 in receipt of EMA are eligible to apply.
