Letter to the Editor:

Re your front page story on May 24 regarding the introduction of a 40 mph speed limit on the A78.

Councillor Ian Murdoch cannot speak on behalf of the other elected members for the North Coast area who may very well have their own views.

In this instance, community consultation over an important issue of road safety is not appropriate.

As a user of this road I can only welcome this temporary speed limit restriction and trust that it will be made permanent.

This twisting narrow road is abused by speeding drivers and it is no wonder that there are accidents.

The lead story in the Herald on Thursday May 25 had the following headline “Car death toll doubles in a year on Scots roads”. Amey should be congratulated for being decisive.
