A TALENTED Largs Academy pupil is dancing with delight after being chosen to represent Scotland at the Cheer World Championships in Florida next year.

Maddison Clamp, 16, will jet off to the States as part of Scotland’s adaptive abilities squad for the biggest competition in cheer.

Proud mum Laura reveals her daughter, who has been dancing since she was two years old, rediscovered cheer just before the pandemic.

She explained: “Maddi has been a dancer since she was two and tried all different styles but she has really connected with cheer.

“She first discovered it when she was about eight before falling away, and then she got back into it again with a new team Ice Allstars in Greenock.

“She has been there for about three years now and has been to competitions all over the UK to strut her stuff.

“Her big sister Morgan is currently a coach with the team too so it’s nice to have both of them learning together.”

Laura says Maddi was over the moon after finding out she had made it through a competitive selection process for a place on Team Scotland.

She said: “She was encouraged to go for the tryouts and she got into the adaptive abilities squad which is for athletes with physical disabilities.

“Maddi has health problems and suffers with her pain but she just pushes through and does whatever she can.

“When she got the selection email she was over the moon and the rest of us were chuffed to bit for her.

“It’s really tough to get onto the team and people from all over Scotland tried out so it’s a big achievement to be picked.”

Maddi and her family are now looking to raise £3,000 to help send the young dancer to Florida to compete.

Laura added: “The competition takes place in April and it’s the biggest competition in cheer with teams from all over the world competing.

“We need to raise the money to pay for Maddi’s flights, accommodation and fees but it will all be so worth it for her.

“We have a race night organised and we will be doing some other things throughout the year to help raise the money.

“Our family will also be paying for ourselves to head over and support Maddi, as she competes in cheer as well as completing her fifth year at Largs Academy.”
