Largs Cronies Burns Club held their 34th Annual Dinner in the Willowbank Hotel to commemorate the life and works of Robert Burns.

President Brian Jackson welcomed the 50 members and guests attending and introduced the principal speakers during the Thursday, January 25 event.

Following Grace by club member and local Church of Scotland Minister, Rev David Watson, a meal was served, during which the Haggis was piped in by club piper, Allan Wilson and addressed in great style by committee member Jimmy Law.

The principal speaker for the evening was Donald Reid, honorary president of Barrmill Jolly Beggars Burns Club, who delivered a very informative and well-crafted “Immortal Memory”.

Rev David Watson, the senior minister of the new Cumbrae, Fairlie and Largs Parish Church, proposed the “Toast to the Lasses”.

The evening’s entertainment included recitations from David Galt (Holy Willie’s Prayer) and Jimmy Law (John Barleycorn).

Singers, Willie Menzies and Rev Jonathan Fleming, entertained the company with a varied selection of Burns’ songs.

The president read the fraternal greeting cards received from kindred Burns Clubs and one of the club’s newer members, David Ennis, proposed the "Toast to the Largs Cronies Burns Club".

The raffle, organised by committee member, Renwick Adam, raised the sum of £324 which goes towards the annual schools' competition.

A most enjoyable evening was concluded with a "Vote of Thanks" given by Vice President Angus Middleton, followed by rousing renditions of "The Star of Robbie Burns" and "Auld Lang Syne".
