The new Grill'd takeway in Fairlie launches today (Thursday) - but before even opening the doors the owner revealed he had to battle back from flooding damage.

Daniel McKinnon snapped up the opportunity to take over the former Shun Tin Chinese takeaway, next to the the A78, after previous plans to open a pharmacy at the premises fell through.

After a two-month renovation Daniel was able to open the eatery on Thursday, February 1.

Daniel, who also owns The Shore Shack in Skelmorlie, hosted a soft opening on Wednesday for friends and family, which included a variety of mouth-watering meals including signature burgers, pizzas, and much more.

Before he even opened the doors, his team had to recover from flooding.

He said: "I had to overcome a flood on December 27. We had over four inches of water in here and it ruined all the floor.

"So I had to rinse all the floor and put a drain in the back and it was a lot of hours of work when we were supposed to be on our festive break.

"We spent eight hours pumping out water and we had help from Brian Wraith in Largs, who had industrial cleaner, to give us a hand."

Speaking about the menu, Daniel said: "We have a lot of variation and it is basically to make sure there is something there for everyone including vegan, vegetarian, all allergens, and gluten free, so we have everything covered.

"Everything is locally sourced whether it is likes of McCaskie's or John Scott Meat it is all locally supplied or homemade.

"I have been very strict on providing homemade, and we spent two weeks on a barbecue sauce which everyone enjoyed on their chips during the soft opening."

Guests who attended the soft opening yesterday evening were very impressed.

Donna Lindsay, from Largs, said: "It was very fresh and varied and the menu was huge and it was all gorgeous.

"The highlights included the chicken tenders and the Nutella pizza for the dessert, and you have different sauces for different taste buds and I really hope he does well."

Daughter Keara, who is a vegetarian said: "The vegetarian wrap was also very impressive but I also think it is good that you can get any pizza or burger on the menu and they can make it vegetarian, as sometimes as a vegetarian you feel you are missing out on one option, so it was very good all round."

Grill'd will be open for collections and takeaway and will provide deliveries to Fairlie, Largs, and West Kilbride.

Customers will be able to pick up fresh street food between Wednesdays and Sundays, from 4pm to 10pm.
