COASTGUARD bosses have issued a warning to drivers after a flood alert was issued for the Ayrshire and Arran coast.
The warning comes from the coastguard rescue team on Cumbrae, who have warned island drivers to take care on the B896 road around the island following the warning from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
A spokesperson for the Cumbrae team said: "Today sees an unusually high spring tide reaching 3.78m in Millport at around 2pm this afternoon – The highest tide of the year so far.
"Although the forecast is for light winds from the south west, meaning that disruption should be minimal, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued a flood alert for Ayrshire and Arran.
"Please exercise caution around all low-lying areas of the island, and especially if driving on the coast road around Ballochmartin Bay."
A SEPA spokesperson said: "This alert is for coastal flooding. Due to high spring tides there is a risk of flooding to low lying areas on Tuesday.
"Localised flooding of land and roads and disruption to travel is possible. The periods of greatest risk are around the times of high water.
"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."
