The new community food larder in Millport is on the lookout for volunteers to give the project a helping hand.

The larder, under the name of the Millport Community Shop, will be situated in The Garrison's grounds.

It follows the successful launch of the Largs Community Larder at Largs Library last month, as well as other community larders throughout the district, including one in West Kilbride.

Like those on the North Ayrshire mainland, the Cumbrae project's aim is to provide dignified and affordable access to food for those who are struggling to make ends meet.

The set-up works on a membership basis, and the larder provides a way for locals who are struggling to make ends meet to top up their weekly shop, with their own choice of foods available.

A spokesperson said: "The new community food larder in Cumbrae which will be held in the grounds of Garrison House are looking for volunteers.

"We are looking for compassionate and reliable members of the community to be part of a team to provide a much needed resource."
