A long established fish and chip shop in Largs town centre is closing its doors on April 28.

Gino's Fryer, which opened in Largs in 1982, is to close, according to an announcement by the business's owner, Franca Sheridan, on social media.

Franca took over the running of the premises eight years ago after many years in the hands of Franco Martinelli.

In her letter to customers, posted on the business's Facebook page, Franca said: "After much consideration and with a heavy heart, I have made the difficult decision to close Gino’s Fryer.

"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of our customers for their patronage over the last eight years.

"There are many reasons for my decision to close but mainly its because I feel that I cannot continue to devote the time and energy required to run and maintain the business.

"On a personal level, it’s been a tough 12 months, never mind the economic challenges we have faced as a business.

"I deeply appreciate your understanding during this challenging time and I will miss being a part of this wonderful community and serving you all.

"I would also like to thank my wonderful staff for all of their hard work, commitment and understanding. Any business would be blessed with such a great team.

"Our final day of operation will be Sunday, April 28. Until then, we will continue to serve you with the same dedication and commitment as always.

"If you still have a food bank voucher from Christmas, please use it this week.

"Thank you once again for your support over the last eight years."
