PLAYERS and management at Largs Thistle FC are inviting fans and local residents to hot-foot it to a fund-raising event at the club next month.

All of Thistle's players and coaching staff will be taking part in a 'firewalk' at Barrfields Park on Saturday, February 3 to give the club's finances a boost - and they're urging supporters and members of the public to join in too.

The event is coming to Barrfields courtesy of Firewalk Scotland, one of the UK's longest-established firewalk providers.

Expert firewalk instructor Lee Walls will be leading the event, which is aimed at building participants' confidence as well as raising funds for the club.

Ali McMaster, Thistle's acting president, told the News that he hoped Thistle fans and members of the community would get involved in something that's never happened before at Barrfields Park.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Ali said: "It will bring a real buzz to Barrfields on the night. It is great that all the players are taking part.

"There will also be a licensed bar and the kitchen will be open on the evening, and there will also be music speakers to build up the atmosphere.

""We are also using it as an opportunity to come and meet the players, so fans can come along and take part and bring their family and friends.

"We are hoping this will be a major fundraiser for the club and because it is something new and unique, it will attract members of the community to come along and take part too.

"We have hopes of getting floodlights in place and hopefully we can raise a good few quid to help us towards our goal, and help tide us over the winter months.

"We are up against clubs with much bigger budgets than ourselves, but we are still very capable of pulling off great results in this league, and we hope people can come onboard with this fundraiser."

Largs Thistle manager Stuart Davidson has urged fans to get involved and seek sponsorship to take part.

He said: "I have never done anything like this before, and hopefully by all the players getting involved, there is an opportunity to get the fans involved, and we can have a great evening.

"I am looking forward to it."
