Largs Thistle players, committee and management braved the hot ashes of a firewalk fundraiser to bring in important funds for the club.

The challenge was so rewarding that some participants even took part in the firewalk TWICE, incuding manager Stuart Davidson who led the way.

Even sponsors Ross and Tiffany Irvin of The Fishworks showed courage in taking part in the fun event which included drinks in the licensed bar afterwards as a suitable reward for everyone's endeavours.

Acting chairman Ali McMaster came up with the unique fundraising idea and it proved popular with around 30 taking part overall.

Ali, who is the father of wing-back Laurie McMaster, said: "We had a good turn out and everyone enjoyed it after the organiser Lee Walls gave us a motivational speech at the start and helped put everyone at ease before the big walk.

"It was quick as you walked across and you could put your feet in a bucket of water at the end.

"You could certainly feel the heat as you walked across but it was very much a case of mind over matter.

"It has been one of our most popular fundraisers and will give us a much important injection of funding to help us over the winter months.

"It was my own idea to bring the firewalk to Largs Thistle as I have done it before and it is a good motivational thing for a lot of people, and it is something that a lot of groups, companies and organisations do.

"Everyone was great and bought into it. We even had some new people turn up and take part and we hope we might even have managed to get a few new supporters through this, so overall it was a win win for everyone involved."
