Largs Thistle legend George Wall writes for the News about football matters local, national and international...

Will Largs ever move from 11th place in the Premier Division? It seems no matter how many points they pick up, they remain in 11th.

Another three points against Irvine Meadow takes them to 25 points from 18 games. I thought Largs just deserved the win on Saturday based on the chances that were created.

Did Jamie Martin mean to score from the free kick? I don’t think it was a shot for goal, more of a "put it into an area with pace but make sure it’s also between the posts" effort. Regardless, they all count.

Overall I thought it was a lacklustre game with little to excite the crowd. I was really surprised at the Medda performance; stuck at the bottom of the table, I thought there would have been more fight about them. They did not look like a team fighting to stay in the division.

At the top of the table, Clydebank are still tiio, six points ahead of Beith, who have four games in hand. This weekend it’s Clydebank v Largs; can Largs help out Beith as Chris Strain's side aim to retain their title?

This Saturday's game is the first of three testing away fixtures in a row for Largs, with St Cadoc's and Cumnock to come in the first two weeks of March.

Last week also saw the draw for the semi-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup. The two Ayrshire sides left in the hat, Darvel and Auchinleck Talbot, will face off in one tie, while the other will see Johnstone Burgh take on Arthurlie, with both ties taking place over two legs. Of the teams left in the competition I'd like to see Talbot win it.

I loved Craig Levein’s comment at the weekend about VAR being the top scorer in the league.

Two penalties awarded to Rangers helped them beat St Johnstone and go top of the league on Sunday, and both went to VAR.

The first one was a stonewaller for me; why it needed VAR, I have no idea. The second I wasnot so sure, but if I had been in the Rangers team I'd have been asking for it.

It was great for Ayrshire to see Kilmarnock hold Celtic to a draw on Saturday. The result keeps Killie on track for a European spot; I hope they do it.

I see local boy Aaron Quigg has been loaned to Albion Rovers from Killie and made his debut on Saturday.

Aaron scored the only goal of the game to give 'the Wee Rovers' full points against Gretna 2008. Well done Aaron!
