Largs Thistle legend George Wall reacts to Clydebank win

The result says it all. A 3-2 win for Largs, away from home, against league leaders Clydebank. Well done Arnie, the rest of the coaching team and the squad.

I noted last week that Largs had been stuck in 11th place for what seemed like forever: well, they're 11th no more, and now up to ninth thanks to that excellent win.

Next up for Largs it's a trip to a St Cadoc's side who are sitting in fourth place, but only four points ahead with the same number of games played - and who were on the wrong end of a surprise on Saturday when they lost 3-0 to Arthurlie. There is no reason why Largs can’t come home with the three points.

Elsewhere, it was announced this week that the Benburb manger Paul Lovering and his assistant Ian Gray were leaving their roles. Paul, of course, is the son of Frank Lovering, a former Largs player and manager, while Ian was part of Frank’s coaching team, along with myself, at Largs when we won the league. Good luck to both Paul and Ian.

Taking over from Paul is the Bens' current coach, Martin Campbell.

On the subject of Benburb, I was at the Medda Wednesday club last week where Frank told the story of Benburb nearly going out of the game and the recovery of building New Tinto Park. It'  a great story and testament to the commitment of the current committee and their drive to keep Benburb in the game.

I also attend the Dementia Friendly Largs sponsored event in the AD Cameron Centre last week where Lawrence Lindsay entertained us and prompted plenty of discussion on football memories. It was a really good event and I hope to be at the next one. The free mince pies were good too!

On Saturday I went to see Morton v Airdrie at Cappielow, and enjoyed watching Morton win 2-1 to go 15 games without defeat. It was a good, competitive game, and no mean feat for any team to go 15 matches without losing.

Finally, what about that winning goal in the Chelsea v Liverpool cup final on Sunday? Why is the latest fad not to put players on the post at corners? For me the minimum you have is a player on each post and another at the edge of the six yard box.
