LARGS picked up a good point away from home against Cumnock on Saturday. It takes them out of that perennial 11th position in the league that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago and up to 10th.

Next up for Stuart Davidson's men is Gartcairn at home this weekend, and if Largs get all three points - against a team they've already beaten away from home this season - they'll go above them in the table. A great incentive.

On Friday night I attended the Kilbirnie Ladeside Hall of Fame dinner and was honoured to present an 'outstanding contribution' award to a former Largs Thistle player, Ted O'Rourke.

I also presented the same awards to two more good players, and tough opponents, George Coll and Hugh Lyden.

One other award on the night that was thoroughly deserved was the Kilbirnie Ladeside Ambassador Award. Chosen by another former Largs player, current Ladeside ambassador Jim Marner, the winner was Kilbirnie's current match secretary, Gordon Ronney, who has served the club, man and boy, for more than 50 years. Richly deserved.

As you'd expect, there was plenty of reminiscing at that event - and the same was true of the Medda Wednesday Club, which I attended alongside Peter Monan, Ross Findlay and Bobby McCulloch last week.

I reminded Bobby of the day he was send off against Largs while playing for Ardrossan. He was shown a red card, along with Brian McShane and the aforementioned Ted O'Rourke of Largs, for their part in the same incident. The following week the Largs & Millport News described the alleged punch thrown by Ted as "a right-hander Mike Tyson would have been proud of".

Largs won that game 4-2 and there were plenty of well-known names in the Thistle team that day: McGinty, Simpson, Glancy, Wall, McGuinness, Rodgers, McShane, O’Rourke, S. McCafferty, McLaughlin and Kerr.  Subs A. McCafferty and Young.  Scorers for Largs were S.McCafferty, McShane, Rodgers and Kerr. That was a good game to play in.

What about Neil Warnock? Thirty-three days he lasted at Aberdeen. Did he jump after Saturday's cup win over Kilmarnock, or was he pushed? I guess we'll find out in the next few days.

He left saying Aberdeen were near to appointing a new manager. As I write this on Monday, it hasn't happened yet. Let's see what materialises...could it be Neil Lennon?

No matter what you thought of his management style, and his results, Neil Warnock's interviews were good. We might even see him more at Cappielow now.

Finally, the weekend's games in the Premier League saw yet more VAR controversy, with Jurgen Klopp claiming Liverpool should have had a penalty late on in their game against Manchester City on Sunday.

Having seen the game, I have to agree with Klopp that if it had happened anywhere outside the penalty area, a foul would have been given. It was a great game of football though.
