Largs Thistle 4, Maryhill 3

WILL SEWELL netted the winning goal as Largs Thistle edged a seven-goal thriller in a hastily-arranged friendly on Saturday.

Largs are in good place right now after another big win on the road against Darvel and had been advertising for friendly opposition for the weekend, with Maryhill answering the call and providing suitably feisty competition for the 11am kick-off at Barrfields.

Largs opened the scoring on 12 minutes with Darryl Duffy converting from close range, setting the tone for an action-packed and goal-laden encounter.

Maryhill levelled matters on the half hour mark after a forward blazed through the defence to score.

Largs were back in front on 37 minutes when David Ramsay rushed though to score, giving the home side the interval advantage.

But the visitors, who currently lie seventh in the WoSFL's Second Division, levelled the match for a second time, this time from the penalty spot on 62 minutes.

Thistle restored their lead in the final quarter of an hour when Sewell followed up skipper Scott Adam's deflected effort to slide in and score.

Maryhill set up an exciting finale as the visitors pulled level for a third time 60 seconds later, but it was Sewell who settled it with his second of the afternoon six minutes from time.

The win keeps the good feel factor in the Largs camp going into Thistle's away double header in the league this week, with trips to Hurlford on Tuesday night and and Irvine Meadow on Saturday.

It was also good to see all the strikers share the goals but boss Stuart Davidson will certainly want to tighten up the defence for the remaining challenges to come as Thistle aim for a high league placing.

Thistle team: Johnston, McLeod, McMaster, McCreath, Tennent, Cumming, Lapsley. Davidson, Ramsay, Duffy, McGrath. Subs: Adam, Sewell, Hughes, Faulds, Trialist, Martin, Devine.
