Largs Thistle got their three points away to Irvine Meadow on Saturday - and as well as a fifth straight win for Stuart Davidson's men, their 1-0 victory also confirms relegation for 'Medda'.

That’s one club I do not like to see going down a division. I believe they have a lot to offer the top league, but in my opinion their problem has been the turnover of managers they have had recently. I really hope they come straight back up, although it’s not going to be easy, with other North Ayrshire sides including Kilbirnie Ladeside and Ardrossan Winton Rovers also in contention.

Will Sewell's penalty keeps Largs in fifth spot in the Premier League and with three big home games to come, against Beith, Auchinleck and Cumnock, before an away trip to Rob Roy to round off the season.

The Scottish Junior Cup finalists, meanwhile, are Darvel and Arthurlie. after the second legs of the semi-finals took place at the weekend. Darvel went down 1-0 to Auchinleck but go through on a 2-1 aggregate, and Arthurlie beat Johnstone Burgh 2-1 to go through 4-3 on aggregate.

The Junior Cup wasn't the only tournament to provide plenty of drama at the weekend, with the Aberdeen v Celtic tie on Saturday causing a few people - me included - to step away from the Largs game and into the Medda social club to watch the penalty shootout at Hampden.

And as if that wasn't enough, what about the Coventry v Man United game on Sunday, with Coventry denied what would have been a historic win by VAR deciding their last-gasp effort was offside by millimetres.

Scotland have suffered another injury blow ahead of the Euros, with Everton boss Sean Dyche confirming that right-back Nathan Patterson will require surgery, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Also out is Lewis Ferguson after having surgery on a knee injury.

Still on matters European, the Champions League semi finalists are decided, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-German and Borussia Dortmund. The big surprise to me was Real Madrid winning on penalties against Man City. They met in last year's semi-final, with Man City winning 5-1 on aggregate - what a turnaround for both clubs.

Meanwhile, the over 35s' season has started with Largs Thistle winning 4-1 against Ardeer in their first league game which was played at Inverclyde.

Grant Cockerill scored twice while Alan Shanks and Mark Kilpatrick were also on target as Largs made a good start to their campaign.

This Friday the 35s are in Kilmarnock playing Templetonburn FC, who are a new team in the league.
